\\ INBOUND \\ DRIVING IN ITALY

Intro
Driving in Italy is not the same as driving in the United States. The rules of the road differ and the roads are very narrow. Driving here safely is not a problem providing you follow the same rules that apply everywhere; remain attentive while driving, don't drive too fast for the conditions, and obey the laws.

armed fORCES IN ITALY (AFI) DRIVER’S LICENSING
To receive your AFI Driver’s license you must:

- Complete and submit the AFI Licensing Application
- Take the AFI License Test and AFI Road Sign Test on line (see link for Driver's Test Software below or to the right) and submit the test results to the Drivers Licensing Office
- Attend the bases Local Conditions Brief
- Have a valid stateside, USAREUR or other country license (can’t be expired).

To meet your needs, you have two options: a Right Start Process (designed to reduce the total amount of time you spend on the process) and an Individual Process (designed to ensure you get your license as soon as possible).

Results in a license being put into your hand on Tuesday morning

- First thing Day 1 of Right Start, fill out the AFI Licensing Application form and provide it to your Right Start Coordinator. Right Start will ensure the form gets to Driver’s License Office so the processing of your license can begin.

- Also on Day 1 of Right Start you will attend the base Local Conditions Briefing which is required to get your license.

- To pass the online test you need to score 100% on both tests (see link for Driver's Test Software below or to the right). Exception: If you currently have a valid USAREUR US Certificate of License (AE Form 190-1F) you are not required to take the Italian Road Sign Test.

- If you complete the above items, and have a valid stateside, USAREUR or other country license, your AFI license will be provided to you before the end of Right Start, Day 2.

individual PROCESS: This process will require you to forward (email/fax) information to the Licensing Office and/or make one or more trips to base offices.

- NLT the day before you need your license, open the AFI Licensing Application Form AFI Drivers License Application and fill out the form, then:
-- Save and email it to 31sfs.passandreg@aviano.af.mil; or
-- Print and fax it to SFS Licensing Office at 314-632-8198; or
-- Print it and take a copy to Drivers Licensing Office

- Attend the Local Conditions Briefing at either Right Start, Day 2 or at the base Safety Office on Thursdays at 1400 and receive a certificate of completion which you’ll need to provide to the Licensing Office when you go to get your license.

- Take the on-line AFI Written and Road Signs Tests. ***Remember to enter your name as it is shown on your Driver's License prior to starting the test(s).

If you experience technical/software problems running the AFI Test please contact 31CS Focal Point at commercial 39-0434-30-2666 or DSN 314-632-2666.

- Once you have scored a 100% on both tests print out the test results and bring it to the Licensing Office. Exception: If you currently have a valid USAREUR US Certificate of License (AE Form 190-1F) you are not required to take the Italian Road Sign Test.

- After you complete the above items, take your valid stateside, USAREUR or other country license, the test and proof of Local Conditions Briefing to the Driver’s License Office to get your AFI Drivers License.

You can take the test as many times as you need to in order to score a 100%.
