Intro

Congratulations on your assignment to Aviano AB, Italy. An assignment to Aviano AB is both exciting and rewarding. Whether this is your first assignment abroad, or if you're a veteran in PCSing, we are here to assist.

Moving to a new base presents its challenges. To assist you in this transition, here are two checklists that outline all the steps needed to be successful. Recommend you complete the below Newcomers Checklist items before your arrival. Also, please review the Helpful Tips section in this checklist, which provides information on frequently asked questions about housing, transportation, school, family members and pets.

While the information here can be helpful, your sponsor is the key to a good transition to Aviano AB.

RIGHT START/BENVENUTI


- The Right Start (INTRO)/Benvenuti Program is mandatory for all active-duty personnel new to Aviano Air Base. DoD Civilians and spouses are highly encouraged to attend. "Right Start" is Aviano's one stop in-processing center. In-processing is held the first duty day of the week starting at 8:00 am and is four days long (typically Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday). The last two days are the Benvenuti Cultural Adaptation and local area tour. Spouses are welcome and highly recommended to attend both Right Start and Benvenuti. Right Start is managed by the Relocation Assistance Program and held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. First duty station Airmen will attend a 5-day course of training at the First Term Airmen's Center (FTAC) immediately following Right Start. We highly encourage newcomers to review the driver’s license testing material and take the test before arriving, go online to view materials. The following documents are required for Right Start:

Valid State Drivers License for self and spouse
"No Fee" Passport with VISA stamp for DoD Civilians, all spouses and family members
Medical/Shot records for self and family members
9 Copies of Orders and Amendments*
2 Copies of Vehicle Shipping Document*
2 Copies of all receipts*
Any tickets used in route to Aviano
One copy of travel advances from last duty station
Copy of recruiter's assistance program letter (if applicable)

If you are inbound to Aviano and do not know who your sponsor is, send us an E-mail and we will be happy to connect you with a sponsor. Please include the unit you will be assigned to, your expected arrival date and contact information. We'll contact your gaining unit to ensure a sponsor is assigned and makes contact with you.
